Southern Arizona Extends a Warm Welcome to International Leaders

Global Ties Arizona brings Southern Arizona’s expertise and leadership into global conversations through international exchange.

Southern Arizona community members recently came together to welcome two international delegations visiting the state through the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP).

The evening reception created an opportunity for local leaders to connect with visitors from the Middle East, North Africa, and Ukraine, exchange ideas, share regional expertise, and build relationships across borders.

One delegation, participating in Regional Collaboration to Combat Transnational Crime, explored how Arizona’s government agencies, law enforcement, communities, and private-sector partners collaborate to strengthen border security and prevent illicit trafficking.

The second delegation, participating in Best Practices for Critical Minerals Management, included government officials and private-sector leaders from Ukraine. During their time in Arizona, the visitors learned about mineral production, processing, recovery, recycling, emerging technologies, and strategies for strengthening critical-mineral supply chains.

Southern Arizona brought an especially valuable perspective to these conversations. With extensive experience in cross-border collaboration, border security, mining, trade, economic development, and resource management, the region demonstrates how local knowledge can help address challenges with global significance. The reception allowed Arizona leaders to share that expertise while learning directly from their international counterparts.

As Global Ties Arizona continues expanding its work throughout the state, we are creating more opportunities for international visitors to experience the full breadth of Arizona’s industries, leadership, and communities. Southern Arizona is essential to telling that story and ensuring our state continues to play an active role in international exchange and dialogue.
