Global Ties Arizona is currently seeking applications of individuals interested in joining its Board of Directors beginning in January 2024.
Global Ties Arizona relies on its Board of Directors to drive strategy, assess organizational effectiveness, and ensure adequate financial resources to carry out our programs and operations. As a board member and an integral member of the organization’s leadership, you have the opportunity to make an impact on a locally-led, nationally-recognized organization that carries a history of prestige through its affiliation with the U.S. Department of State, having led global diplomacy efforts in Arizona for more than six decades.
Board terms are a minimum of three years of service, with the possibility to serve two consecutive terms. The next term begins January 1, 2024.
Based on the current composition of the Board of Directors, we are specifically looking for local leaders who possess expertise and rich experience in the following areas:
Accounting and fiscal management
Nonprofit fundraising and development
Marketing and public relations

Expectations:
Board Members sign a commitment annually which includes the following duties and responsibilities:
Serve on the Board for a minimum 3-year term;
Actively serve on at least one Board committee;
Sign and uphold the organization’s Board Commitment and Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest policies annually, and disclose any possible conflicts of interest at start of service;
Support Global Ties Arizona through regular attendance and participation at the quarterly (4) Board meetings and annual (1) Board retreat. In-person attendance of meetings is required. Virtual attendance may be accommodated only for board members on business travel at the time of the meeting or those who reside outside of the Greater Phoenix area;
Support Global Ties Arizona with a $1000 give-or-get monetary contribution annually.
Actively support Global Ties Arizona in the following:
Participation in Global Ties Arizona fundraising events and initiatives
Attend at least two (2) Global Ties Arizona events per year
Aid at least two (2) IVLP (International Visitor Leadership Program)groups per year
Share professional expertise and connections as appropriate to grow programming and partners;
Introduce three (3) new individuals to the work of Global Ties Arizona by inviting them to join as a citizen diplomat, attend an event, or engage with a visiting group;
Consider additional service in a leadership position (Officer or Committee Chair) on the Board of Directors.
Summary of Qualifications:
We are looking for qualified candidates that possess the following:
A firm commitment to serve as an active ambassador of Global Ties Arizona and support its mission and vision;
At least 10 years of leadership experience with a thorough understanding of the expectations and responsibilities of serving on a nonprofit board;
A demonstrated understanding and strong interest in at least one of the following areas: public diplomacy, international exchange programming, global affairs, nonprofit fundraising, and business development;
Strong strategic planning skills;
A commitment to fundraise for the organization, including willingness to make an
annual financial contribution to Global Ties Arizona and provide proactive support
to fundraising efforts from corporations, foundations, and/or government agencies to generate donations, sponsorships or grants;
Diplomatic skills and a natural affinity for cultivating relationships, facilitating dialogue, and building consensus among diverse individuals;
A background that can contribute to the diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility goals of the organization.

The Global Ties Arizona Nominations Committee will review submissions and contact selected candidates for further screening using the timeline below:
October 2, 2023 | Application deadline
October 2 – October 15 | Applications reviewed by Nominations Committee *Applicants selected to proceed to the interview process will be contacted to schedule and references will be reviewed. Those who do not proceed in the screening process will be notified by email.
October 15 – 30 | Final Candidate Interviews
November 1 | Nominations Committee Meets
November 4 | Final Candidate Recommendations Made to Board & Vote
November 13 | Candidates Notified of Final Decision
December | Information out regarding 2024 formal elections process & new board member onboarding
All aspects of the selection process are confidential. While the Nominations Committee receives and reviews all applications, only materials for finalist candidates are presented to the full Board. Upon affirmative vote by the Board and notification of all candidates, the Chair of the Board will announce new members in advance of the January 1 term start date.
